Half-pint jars are commonly used for jams, jellies, preserves, relishes, and other products when that jar size is permitted by the tested recipe.

What to look for

Use jars made for home canning. Never substitute a larger jar than the tested process allows.

Safe-use reminder

Equipment does not make an untested recipe safe. Use a current authoritative home-canning process that specifies the food, preparation, jar size, canner type, time or pressure, and altitude adjustment. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s current instructions.

Before you buy

  • Confirm compatibility with your jars, lids, cooktop, and tested process.
  • Check capacity, dimensions, replacement-part availability, and warranty terms.
  • Inspect equipment before use and replace damaged or incompatible parts.
