What makes it different

A recipe is more useful when its context survives.

Structured recipe data

Ingredients, amounts, instructions, notes, methods, jar sizes, processing details, and other recipe information are captured where the source provides them.

Research metadata

Source reliability, publication details, country or region, safety review, historical context, image provenance, and duplicate relationships remain part of the encyclopedia record.

Scope

Home canning only. Worldwide in reach.

The encyclopedia includes current tested recipes, historical home-canning material, regional traditions, manufacturers’ household guidance, books, extension and institutional sources, blogs, archives, and documented rebel or unsafe methods when clearly classified. Commercial and industrial canning processes are outside the recipe scope.

Document broadly. Recommend carefully.

Preserving an unsafe, untested, or obsolete recipe as a historical or research record does not make it a recommendation. Safety status is kept separate from popularity, ratings, tradition, and source identity.

Build for scale without losing rigor.

Search and filter by food type, canning method, source organization, geographic origin, safety status, jar size, and historical context while keeping citations, translations, archive references, images, and duplicate relationships connected.

Editorial principle

Preserve the record without blurring the recommendation.

Historical source text and current safety interpretation serve different purposes. The encyclopedia keeps them distinguishable so readers can study how home canning developed while still finding clear modern safety context.
