Presto 01784 Induction Pressure Canner Review: Is It Right for Your Range?

Affiliate disclosure: This review contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Prices and availability can change.

The Presto 01784 is a 23-quart dial-gauge pressure canner with a stainless-steel-clad base designed to work on induction as well as gas, electric, and smooth-top ranges. Its principal advantage over the Presto 01781 is induction compatibility.

Food-safety boundary: Induction compatibility does not change the canning process. Follow the current canner manual and an authoritative tested recipe specifying the food, preparation, jar size, pressure, time, and altitude adjustment.

What we like

The clad base opens full-size pressure canning to many households with induction cooktops. It retains the familiar capacity and operating pattern of Presto’s conventional 23-quart model, while the dial gauge shows pressure continuously. Presto supplies the rack and supports model-specific manuals and replacement parts.

Limitations and compatibility checks

Presto states that this model may not work on every portable induction range. Before purchasing, confirm burner diameter, cookware detection requirements, continuous-run behavior, filled-weight limits, and the canner’s physical clearance. The stainless-clad base adds induction functionality but does not eliminate the need to monitor a dial gauge or have it checked as recommended.

01784 versus 01781

Choose the 01784 when induction support is required. If your compatible range does not use induction, the less specialized 01781 may provide the same jar capacity at a lower cost. Both models require the same disciplined use of tested processes.

Safe-use checklist

  1. Match the exact model manual to the canner.
  2. Confirm the range can safely support and heat the loaded vessel.
  3. Inspect the gauge, vent, sealing components, lid, safety plug, and rack.
  4. Vent as directed, maintain the tested pressure continuously, and make the correct altitude adjustment.
  5. Allow natural depressurization; never force-cool the canner.

Verdict

The Presto 01784 is the more appropriate of these two full-size models for induction kitchens, provided the specific range is compatible. Its premium is justified by the clad base, not by a different or faster safe-processing schedule.
